County 2nd Team Matches
On 1st September 2022 our 2nd team travelled to Horsley Lodge Golf Club in Derbyshire for the Midland North Regional.
Our opponents being Leicestershire & Rutland.
The morning foursomes went Staffordshire’s way finishing 2 1/2 - 1/2 taking us into the afternoon singles session in a strong position. Leicestershire & Rutland fought back hard winning 4 of the six singles matches to tie the overall match 4 1/2 - 4 1/2.
A countback of games won and recheck of all the match results could not split the teams - 11 games each.
A sudden death play-off took place and Rachel Horobin stepped up for Staffs.
Leicestershire & Rutland was represented by Barbara Suffolk.
After the first playoff hole it was still all square, but Rachel sunk a super putt for a birdie on the 2nd hole, securing the win for Staffordshire.
A fantastic result for Staffordshire and a great result for the end of my captaincy. The ladies I have selected for matches have been a pleasure to watch play golf and we have had a great team spirit and friendship, which is so good for Staffordshire ladies golf.

Thank you to the 2nd team squad of Hannah Golding, Rachel Horrobin, Ruby Horrobin, Rachel Birch, Charlotte Peters, Terri Smith, Nicki Lockley, Emily Sutton, Jenny Couch, Sam Smith, Katie Symonds, Delia Fowler, Deb Loach, Bec Brooks & Chloe Williamson for playing and supporting Staffordshire Ladies’ County Golf.
On Tuesday 16th August 2022 our team played against Derbyshire in their final match of this year's league and came out winners 8/1, an outstanding achievement.
This win means we have made it to the MNR 2nd Team County Finals which takes place at Horsely Lodge G C
on Thursday 1st September.
It would be lovely to see you at Horsely Lodge GC, so please come along and support our 2nd team players.
I am also pleased to announce that Hannah Golding, Tracey Klek, Ruby Horrobin and Charlotte Peters have all earned their 2nd Team County Colours this year.

County Colours, a brooch, are awarded to players who take part in league matches.
To gain the colours, a player has to play in a total of six league matches and gain four match points.
Points are: 1 for a win and 1/2 for a halved match.
(If a player wins 4 points before playing six matches the colours are not awarded until the full six matches are played.)
On the 28th July our County 2nd team hosted our home match at Penn Golf Club against a strong Shropshire team of which we won 7/2.
The team of Rachel and Ruby Horobin; Rachel Birch; Charlotte Peters; Tracy Klek and Jenny Couch absolutely did Staffordshire Ladies Golf proud with some great wins on a tough course.
We have a great team spirit and look forward to our last match which is being held at Brocton Hall Golf Club against Derbyshire on 16th August 2022.

On 12th July, with only 4 players available, unfortunately due to covid and other illnesses, we arrived at Wrekin Golf Club with 7 team members, thanks to a lot of persuasion, ready to play our match against Shropshire.
The team of Katie Symonds; Terri Smith; Deb Loach, Ruby Horobin; Emily Sutton; Bridget Locke and Dee Fowler, who has never played at this level before due to being a higher handicapper, stepped up and managed to get a point in the foursomes!
Unfortunately we lost the match 7/2.
The course is very hilly and the greens were tricky. However, the majority of matches were won on the 17th or 18th greens so, very close.
On 14th July, again with just 7 players, we managed to get a 7.5 to a 1.5 win in our match against Derbyshire at Burton Golf Club.
Our players were:
Hannah Golding; Katie Symonds; Ruby Horobin; Terri Smith; Rachel Birch; Chloe Williamson and Bridget Locke.
Excellent golf was played by all and the camaraderie has been fantastic and we look forward to playing our last two matches.
