Sunday 19th May 2024 saw the 95th County Championship take place at Leek Golf Club and our thanks go to Leek for hosting this year's event.
Under a clear, sunny sky, the players were welcomed by Lady Captain, Janet Heardon and County Rep, Karen Griffiths. Emily Dewsbury not only played but also expertly organised the event, with thanks to Nel Boulton for her help throughout the day.
The course was in excellent condition, a credit to the green staff despite the challenging weather of recent months. The catering staff also ensured everyone was well looked after.
Defending Champion Olivia Whittle delivered a strong performance with a score of Gross 75, winning the Wedgewood Bowl. The contest for the second qualifying place was close, with Rachel Bishop edging out Emily Dewsbury by just one shot.
In the final. Olivia was 2-up at the turn, but Rachel mounted a comeback over the last five holes, ultimately securing a 1-up victory.
Congratulations to Rachel Bishop on her win.
It was a day of great golf, played in good spirits.
Thank you also to those supporters walking the course behind the players.
